FAQ

Why is full access to the Photos library required?

Full access to the Photos library is required to retrieve the processed media stored in the Photos app. When a photo or video is saved Blufa does not know the exact location in the library, so it needs to ask for full access to be able to retrieve the media saved. This is just how the Photos library works on iOS.

What photo and video formats are supported?

Blufa supports all video formats natively compatible with iPhone, including .mp4, .mov, and .m4v. Supported codecs are h.264, h.265 and ProRes including Apple Log and HDR on compatible devices. For photos Blufa supports .bmp, .heif, .jpg, .png, .tiff, and .webp, along with ProRaw on compatible devices.

Am I guaranteed to be anonymous with Blufa?

No! Anonymity is complex. While Blufa can blur faces, someone could still identify you if the footage is shot in an easily recognizable location, like in front of your house or living room.

Is Blufa guaranteed to perfectly blur all faces every time?

Blufa is generally precise and blurs most faces accurately. However, no algorithm is perfect. Always manually verify processed media to ensure sufficient blurring. Blufa offers no guarantees.

Can photos and videos be de-blurred?

Generally, no. However, advancements in machine learning pose potential risks. Adversarial attacks could generate close approximations of the original face, compromising identity. To mitigate this, Blufa includes filters that use none of the original pixels, making reverse-engineering impossible at the cost of aesthetic quality.
